Rhubarbe Strawberry

Synonymes : Early Red

Variété issue d'un semis de Victoria développé par Robert Buist. Il est encore plus grand que son parent et mûrit huit jours plus tôt. Les tiges mesurent un mètre de long et sont tout à fait utilisables avant le début du développement des feuilles. Sa saveur est riche. On peut remarquer que les variétés à tiges rouges sont généralement plus précoces que celles à tiges vertes.

Rouge clair. Vigueur modérée. Produit peu de tiges florales.

1947 — Strawberry Rhubarb — Away ahead of other varieties in color and quality, never tough or stringy. Color a beautiful strawberry red; a quick grower and very hardy. Rhubarb is the most popular and useful of all plants for the garden. It will grow in all soils and locations and takes up very little room. Delicious pies, puddings and sauces are made from the fresh stalks, and when preserved for winter use cannot be surpassed.

2016 — An old extremely rare variety that I obtained from the noted food historian William Woys Weaver. It was part of his grandfather’s collection in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. A very nice rhubarb with reddish stalks. In general, seed grown rhubarb is quite variable, but a good number of seedlings should have red stalks like the parent.
