Rhubarbe Red champagne
An heirloom variety with long pink-red stems with wine aromas and a deliciously sweet taste. The stems can grow to about 24 inches tall. Very popular at one time.
'Red Champagne' rhubarb is an early growing variety that can be forced to produce a late winter harvest, or can be grown naturally for a late spring harvest. This variety has good flavor and long stems.
Red Champagne is a very close relative of Hawkes' Champagne, another long-cultivated variety first introduced in the 1850s, probably by a London market gardener called Edward Hawkes.
This rhubarb can be forced.
